Sales Operations Associate - Remote

The Sales Operations Associate at Formative has a passion for helping educators, a business focused mindset and comfort around finances, and will play an important role in supporting the Sales organization. The role and team requires a candidate who is a Self-Starter, a Quick Learner and Communicative.

Reporting into the business function led by Kevin McFarland, Co-Founder and COO, the Sales Operations Associate will play a key role in removing friction throughout the business. The ideal candidate is a technically-capable, data-savvy and detail-oriented individual.

Who is Formative?

Our co-founder, Craig Jones, was a middle school science teacher at a struggling public school in South Los Angeles. Thanks to a school grant, he was able to work with a class set of used laptops every day. Initially, Craig patched together some basic software, a student response system and a lot of spreadsheets to help understand his students' strengths and weaknesses to learning standards. The technique of daily formative assessment, more targeted intervention, and faster feedback ultimately led to record-breaking academic outcomes. After four years in the classroom, Craig went to grad school at UCLA where he met Kevin McFarland, his roommate, and soon-to-be co-founder. Together, Kevin and Craig envisioned a world where faster formative teaching practices could replace traditional end-of-year summative assessments. After multiple research initiatives, prototypes, and the help of countless individuals, Formative ( was launched in January 2015.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The person in this role will be comfortable wearing many hats and will be primarily responsible for supporting the sales and customer success teams in a variety of ways, some described here:

  • Providing Sales Support such as completing vendor requests for schools and supporting privacy documentation review and editing
  • Assist the sales team in moving contract paperwork and documents through the finance & legal approval process at Formative
  • Reviewing and editing legal language in Student Data Privacy agreements with our school and district partners
  • Reviewing signed contracts
  • Reviewing signed contract information in the finance and accounting system, ensuring that the invoicing information is set up as needed
  • Support the sales team using the CRM (Hubspot)
  • Support rapid on-boarding and training new sales team members on the business technology
  • Own CRM (Hubspot) data quality as needed
  • Support our Customer Success team when needed by responding to customer support requests through Intercom
  • Assisting with Accounts Receivable

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is preferred
  • Previous experience in sales operations is highly desirable
  • Accounts Receivable experience preferred
  • Fluent in English, excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Any data-related business system (e.g. Hubspot, SalesForce, experience is highly desirable
  • Comfortable reading and editing legal language in a variety of contracts, including those pertaining to Student Data Privacy agreements with our school and district partners
